Leanne Abbott

Biography: Leanne Abbott

I have been snowboarding now for around 10 years, for me there is something about riding down a mountain at speed, with cold air hitting your face that no other sport can rival – its awesome.

I am currently at the University of Brighton studying to become a PE teacher. At an exciting time with the new curriculum being implemented and scope for inovation within PE, I have been fortunate to be involved with Curriculum Ex.  A job that has tied in my passion for teaching with my love of boardsports has been great fun to say the least!

Over the past two years I have been delivering taster sessions to primary and secondary schools in the South East, and SSCO conferences in different areas.  What ever the school or the area the comments from teachers and children are the same, they love it!

I believe that giving children the opportunity to experience something completly different in PE can only be a positive thing.  The skills required for Street Surfing can be transfered to so many other board sports, resulting in children finding an activity for life behond school.

The long term vision for curriculum Ex and Street Surfing is sustainability.  I will soon be teaching full time but hope to remain within the team here at Curriculum Ex delivering courses for other teachers as part of there CPD.

If you are interested in getting Street Surfing into your school, get in touch and see for yourself how much of an impact the activity can have on your school.
