Biography: Gary Holding
Growing up in the Midlands my biggest dream was to surf, this was next to impossible given all the practicalities.
Back then, the closest I got to replicating this adrenalin rush was in the wave pool of the local leisure centre on a Styrofoam board in my quiksilver board shorts. Who’s that dude?
It is difficult for me to remember what it was exactly that triggered my interest in surfing, or sports that I hadn’t competed at at school. It may well have been luck, or because I hadn’t truly found my “lifestyle” sport at school. Either way I consider myself extremely fortunate to have surfing as a cornerstone in my life, but wonder how many young people today miss making informed choice about alternative sports that could set them up with their sport for life.
My point is, Street Surfing opens the door for high quality learning opportunities in the sports that are in the subconscious of so many young people today, but without an existing route into them. We provide the insight to capture the imagination, the equipment, training and further support to make participation in new activities great fun for schools who are on their pupil’s wavelength.
